l'Homme à la Peau d'Ours

l’Homme à la Peau d’Ours
A  tale written by the Grimm Brothers, Bearskin tells the story of a former soldier, who, to survive poverty and starvation, makes an agreement with the Devil. The morality is very ironic, because even if he thinks he has triumphed the Deuce, one does not bet with the Devil with impunity, such an act has unusual consequences.
To illustrate this tale, I have chosen an accordion binding. The format can be unfolded, and is designed as a great fresco, which echoes the journey of the protagonist.
I wanted to highlight the initiatory journey of the work : The character has changed trought his adventure. Having travelled the world has made him better, thus, illustrating the world he passed through seemed essential to me. The format of the tale reinforces the inexorable side of the journey that leads to an end heavy with consequences.
Moreover, the initial situation is infernal : war, then misery. The end is also very violent. I choose to use colors to illustrate the similarities of the initial and final situations.
